Pre-Paid Mobile Broadband from Dialog GSM
http://www.dialog.lk/en/mobile/mobilebb/prepaidbb/ppmobilebb.html
Dialog’s prepaid broadband thing has come as result of Mobitel 3G Daily Delight which was introduced in last year. But Dialog has made it more unattractive to customers compared to Mobitel’s 3G delight. As usual dialog introduced this package with their ‘UNLIMITED’ tag line which means definitely it is another ‘Gunduwak’ to mislead customers. Let’s see the package.
Interesting thing to count number of limitations in this ‘UNLIMITED’ broadband package. I found out some:
1. Dialog FUP applies. Means the data is limited to 5GB with advertised speed.
2. Speed is limited after FUP.
3. Specially, the ‘Surfing time’ is limited (very low as 30minutes). but they say unlimited surfing.
4. ‘Validity period’ also limited.
Whatelse can you expect from this shitty service provider. This is ‘TYPICAL’ Dialog’s way of communication.
Don’t get trapped for their communication. They have lost the preliminary feature of a service provider, which is ‘Trust’.
Yet Another Unsuccessful Copycat attempt by Dialog.
want to add another point to the above post, its quite hard to configure the phone or modem to access internet, we have to call dialog and get the settings (cannot push settings to phone or modem), cannot use java applications when using phone to access internet, which is a very ugly thing if ur using Opera Mini to use internet like i do sometimes so have to use the phones internal browser,also have to make a unique username and pass as well by using a dialog web address, it took me about 1 hour to get the settings configured but it didnt work at the end,,,,,,,,
Most of you may already know this but, SLT have reduced ADSL charges and introduced new packages. Details available at http://www.slt.lk/data/forhome/105adsl_charges.htm
I requested a package upgrade from the 512k unlimited package to the 1m unlimited yesterday, and they said that it may take upto 3 days for the change to be done, however, to my surprise, when I came home yesterday, the upgrade had already been done, unfortunately, this package change does not seem to be a straightforward exercise. First of all, it involves changing your ADSL username from [email protected] to [email protected]. The CSR at the teleshop never told me about this change, and I only found out when my router was not connecting in the evening. After contacting the ADSL hotline, the guy at the call center promptly told me that I need to change my username, so assuming this to be my issue I thanked him and hung up. However, after changing the username, I still couldn’t connect, the router would show that ADSL carrier is up and the downstream datarate to be 1021 kbps and upstream datarate as 252 kbps, but it would stop with a “Timeout waiting for PADO packets” error. So I callled customer care again, the guy at the other end said that the matter needs to attended by the technical team and that someone from the technical team would contact me within an hour. Although it was around 6.45pm then, I was surprised to get a call from a technical chap from SLT within 15 mins, but after being on the line with him for about 15-20 mins verifying all settings and rebooting the router, I still could not connect. At this point the technical guy told me that the issue needs to be checked at the exchange and they will send someone there today to fix it. Although I never got a call today to confirm if the issue was fixed, ADSL is now working fine. It also appears that SLT have a new set of dynamic ip addresses starting from 112.135.x.x for the new packages, Speedtest.net is unable to determine who my ISP is and when I sign out of yahoo mail, it automatically redirects to Yahoo Australia homepage!!
Kalinga,
I was thinking of buying the dialog 5490 offer and immediately unlocking the E220 to use it with a M3 package.
in that case what is the minimum I would have to pay upfront just to get the device and disappear?
Is it 5490(for Device)+ 2990*2(two months rental!)+1000 (connection fee) +3000 (Deposit)+Taxes.
Does usual unlocking procedure work with current Dialog E220s?
Thanks.
@SD
hey I unlocked my E220 and it’s working fine.
you can legally escape from the agreement as I done.
Dialog have some issues with rapidshare downloading,.. I used it a key to escape
from there agreement. So I claim using
customer dissatisfaction.
They immediately disconnect my connection and refund my deposit, they didn’t ask me the modem
caz I paid it. 5490/=
try that out…
any problem with unlocking contact me
Kelum,
Interesting! So did they return you all except 5490? What about the advance rentals & connection fee?
would like to know the details of the Rapidshare strategy.Please let me know how I can contact you off line, if you don’t mind.
Thanks,
SD

how is the speed of Airtel doing now, any improvements or gone bad?
I am Using Airtel 3GB package with E220 modem.

thanks guys, i will have to change my m3 plan, bcos 2Gb is just not enough, will have to move to either Airtel Unlimited or m3 7Gb plan, it seems m3 is a Quality for money while Airtel is Quantity for money,,, but all in all at the end what will count is the speed rite, everything from how fast the facebook page loads,the youtube movie streams and how fast the file gets downloaded, most of us hate that ‘waiting’ time and will probably be willing to give the right price to make it go faster,,,
@ rasika
airtel is not good enough to fulfil your requirements. i have 1gb plan now (changed unlimited to 1gb) its difficult to watch you tube videos. it buffers every 2 second…. speed is between 150 & 350kb. stable so better than dialog.
i ll publish sone speed tests tonight or tomorrow.
airtel speed tests done 1 week back. now its even less. will do some and publish….

@Rasika,
I agree with you regarding the description of Airtel and Mobitel. But when comes to dialog they don’t have either quality(due to poor unstable speed) or quantity(due to FUP shit) for money! But they provide funny jokes for money:-))
airtel speed

Hey guys,
Im using a dialog MF 628 modem, Does any1 know how to unlock that?
thanx
i guess you must be talking about a ZTE modem right? i guessed so bcos it says “MF”, anyway i unlocked a ZTE MF 620 which was locked to TMN Portugal using the kulankendi server, its cost me 15 euros (about Rs.2300), you might be able to unlock the dialog one in the same way, but can only be sure after you try it, first download the kulankendi unlocking software and see if the MF 628 is supported. i still didn’t come across any other methods to hack and unlock ZTE modems like we do the Huwawei ones, guess it must be bcos ZTE has such a small market share not many ppl bother to write softwares to hack them. 🙁 , go to http://www.kulankendi.com and see ok.
Hey,
I am currently living on outside the 3G coverage area,Is it possible to get at least 512 internet speed within GPRS coverage area through mobile broadband???
Is mobitel provide 1Mb speed for their daily package (we can buy it paying Rs 25/= or Rs50/= per day)? and within GPRS coverage also??
When i asked from there customer service ,One lady told They are giving 1Mb speed within GPRS coverage also Can we Belive it???
@Asanka
on GPRS/EDGE max download speed you can get is around 64kbps, if ONLY GPRS its lower, say around 32~48kbps
mmmm
Thank you very much for your reply
monawa karannada duka thama
Thanks for the all informations.
I have dialog mobile broadband campus package(Rs 1490) and now I completed 6 months. So I can shift to any other internet provider. I’m planing to shift Airtel unlimited one. Is it a good solution for me? Will Airtel give the same performance as Dialog?
@Dayan
personally i cant say much about Airtel HSDPA since i haven’t used it as much, it can go from 200kbps-1.5mbps but all depend on time and where you are located, unlike Dialog Unlimited HSDPA, Airtel one is truly unlimited so there are no FUP etc.
@Kalinga
Thanks for the reply. I’ll check with someone’s Airtel Connection in my location before I buy it. Keep it up.
@ Kalinga
Thanks for the guidance. I have a direct view of the Airtel tower and it is about 400m far away. I got a Airtel sim and I’m getting a speed of 50KB/s at day time and it reduces more at night.
By the way I’m getting more quality service than Dialog.
I did some speed test on speedtest.net and I got some amazing test results
http://www.speedtest.net/result/479334264.png
upload speed is much higher than the download speed
Is it a problem or just a HSDPA thing?
NEVER buy airtel 300 and 600 limited data packages..for an additional 1mb they charge 5.12 rupees..that means a half a cent per second..so an additional 1gb usage will cost you more than rs5000…anyway when i looked at the telecommunication regulatory commission website it said the approved charges for airtel 300 and 600 data packages are 0.05 cents per an additional kb. http://www.trc.gov.lk/images/pdf/Airtel_tarrif.pdf .i went to the airtel store and asked about it they said that it should be a “printing mistake” in trc website and CS didnt allow me to talk to their superiors..when i called CS hotline they told me that i may have made a mistake bcoz they have been operating packages for 4 months without a problem. But this is serious since they are charging 10 times more than accepted trc rates for pathetic speeds….I tried to compare airtel with other operators…mobitel charges 5 rs. per additional 10MB …dialog – Rs1 for 1 Mb…so Airtel charges 10 times more than mobitel and 5 times more than dialog…I asked about this also and they replied that they don’t have rentals.they only have monthly commitments..so their charges cant b compared with the other operators…THIS IS WORSE THAN DIALOG.becoz they charge 10TIMES more than what has been approved… But What can we do? Please halp me…
Sorry in the above 2nd line should be corrected as half a cent per KB
Hay good news for Dialog HSPA customers…
Dialog is going to update their Colombo base stations to 20Mbps ready… You will feel the deference within next couple of weeks…
@ kalinga
writing after a long time…
want a help .
i m using mobitel HSPA connection and i connect through my HSPA phone. speed is 1 mb always and i get download speed of 120-135KB. OS of the laptop is vista. but you tube site is unusually slow. it buffers a lot.
then i checked you tube site with my ADSL and it also very slow. and i checked the site with airtel sim also and it seems ok.(airtel is slow in all the sites and no difference in you tube)
then i checked desktop which has XP for the same thing. and you tube works fine with both mobitel and ADSL.
can you please help me to solve this?
@mah
there seem to be an issue with SLT/Mobitel users, the Youtube issue is there. I’m not sure about other ISP’s since i didn’t get a chance to check. but will check and let you know.
@ kalinga
thanks
Hay
Dialog 3G experience improved lot… i am in Dehiwala and i get more than 1.5Mpbs in speednet site… sites are loading prity fast…
also no prob for the you tube as well
Youtube issue is no longer there on SLT and Mobitel HSDPA.
how ever have any one experiencing disconnection issues with Mobile HSDPA, where you get disconnected after some time ?
Could you please tell us how Huawei E160 Unblock?
@ kalinga
i saw article saying that mobitel going to launch NGN in the form of LTE…
do you know the time frame and speed they are going to give? i read its about 326mbps down link…..
@ kalinga
did you find anything related to my above comment?
@ kalinga..

this is the news.

@mah
but when ? 😀 for any network after 3.5G is HSPA+ and LTE, but the question is when… maybe 2015 ?
@ kalinga
it cant be too far!!
i searched the net and found these. LTE will come with the next phase.
—-Sri Lanka Telecom Mobitel, having launched the first 3.5G HSPA network in South Asia, announced today its commitment to embrace Next Generation Network (NGN) with its next phase of expansion which will eventually reach a total over 2500 base stations with an emphasis in covering the North and East of Sri Lanka. In pursuit of its vision to “Lead Sri Lanka towards an infocom and knowledge rich society”, the National Mobile Service provider is set to advance its engine with latest NGN, in order to eventually realize ‘Broadband for All’.
—-The company is set to enhance the capacities of its backhaul to energize both the new and existing sites, taking the fullest advantage of its parent’s (Sri Lanka Telecom PLC) sophisticated IP/MPLS optical fiber backbone, while commencing trials on Long Term Evolution (LTE) as its Next G. This initiative augers well for welcoming and actively supporting the ‘Next Generation Networks Standardization Forum’ hosted by the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka (TRCSL) together with the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and the Commonwealth Telecommunication Organization (CTO), held during the period from 07th to 10th of April, in Colombo.—-
http://www.mobitellanka.com/about/news_press_releases/news_press_2009_mobitel_strikes_with_its_pledge_to_launch_ngn.html
——–Mobitel CEO, Suren J. Amarasekara stated that while his organisation has pledged to undertake investments into NGN discussions are underway to unveil LTE and 4G technology soon. “We want to bring down the costs of technology in the future and we are proud to say that Sri Lanka is in par with any other developed country in the worlds in terms of adoption of the latest ICT technologies.”—-
http://www.itpro.lk/?q=node/1960
i want to know this because i want to buy USB modem. if LTE comes will the modem be usable with that???
and i got a good news for all!!!!!!!!!
mobitel zoom tariff will be revised with in week or so. they will give 8Gb for 1200/=
and 1Gb will be 240/= approx.
@mah
don’t believe every thing you read, LTE will take some time, i say maybe in 2013~14 maybe, since LTE mean they need to upgrade there network once more, don’t think the network will spend that much money once more after spending on the 3G to HSDPA upgrade, so will take time.
also no HSDPA modem will NOT work with LTE. also there are no LTE devises for sale at the moment. in USA LTE tests will stare in 2010 or so.
