Dialog Unlimited Mobile Broadband (HSDPA) vs Mobitel M3 Broadband

    I think we should form a Anti-Dialog movement in the internet and go against dialog activities of fooling customers. Thanks to Kalinga as this blog is an eye-opener to sri lankans.

  • sanjan

    @malintha
    you go to big m main office and do a speed test there. (they demonstrates 3.6mb connection there) if it comes more than 3mb then problem is not the cable. i have only 1mb smart and i m still getting more than 1mb.

  • sanjan

    @rishoban
    you are correct.
    i shifted to smart. i bought dialog only to get the modem. i unlocked it and now using smart . if it goes well next month i ll shift to m3 890 package. in this way we can fool dialog back!

  • @sanjan

    well, sanjan, the issue is only for SL to Europe and USA (not much) but the speeds should be normal to Asia.

    1.5mbps is not bad, not bad at all if that connection stay the same, it was like that when i first got my Dialog 3 months back, but after users start to use it since its cheap, the speeds went down, as they never bother to increasing there international bandwidth and there infrastructure.

    issue is, that M3 may have the same effect, as now there bandwidth is free and not many users but still you get around 1.5mbps, what will happen when they have more users ?

    unless they also upgrade there systems and bandwidth m3 will be same as Dialog.

  • Today Dialog seem to switch back to there old gateway and the packet loss is back

    Ping statistics for 216.239.61.104:
    Packets: Sent = 214, Received = 191, Lost = 23 (10% loss),
    Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
    Minimum = 182ms, Maximum = 1065ms, Average = 335ms

    10% Lost !!!

    so i think it good idea to stay away from Dialog HSDPA, its so clear now, Dialog HSDPA is a best mistake you can make in your life.

    Dialog HSDPA SUCKS

  • Ok Guys, after 3 months of suffering with Dialog HSDPA finally i had to say bye bye to Dialog as day by day Dialog service goes down and customer service sucks at top of the level.

    so toady i disconnected my Dialog HSDPA after waiting 2 hours!!!!

    after 3 months from the date i made a complain about my incorrect billing, Dialog still hasn’t fix the issue, they have even closed the complain as resolved, even they don’t know why it has bean closed.

    anyway, all i can say at this point is to stay away from Dialog HSDPA, even if they give it to you for FREE. you will regret it for the rest of your life like i did.

    I’m back with M3 (Mobitel) still with my old package, they activated it Free for me. and on Monday it will be updated to the 3.6mbps one.

    R.I.P Dialog HSDPA !!!

  • mah

    @ kalinga
    my smart speed is less now. it was more than 1000 always untill last wednesday. now i get around 800 with speed testing.but downloads still appear as 120 KB range. its not bad anyway, but my worry is whether it ll go down further with more usage! but when i inquired it from queens road branch they said its because of cable problem.

  • Rishoban

    Sooner I will disconnect my dialog, the only problem is Dialog’s 6 month contract period. In the day it ends, I am no more a dialog customer. But, I have to wait another three months for that.

  • Rishoban

    So, Kalinga has changed to Mobtel, Hereafter his duty is to post some speed tests in mobitel! I will compare these in remaining 3 months and decide whether to change to Mobitel or not.

  • saranga

    @mah,
    Do not depend always on speedtest.net results. If you can get expected speed from other internet sources, there is no any issue with M3.we will wait another couple of week and see the performance of M3.

  • mah

    @ malintha
    this is not very bad. i get around 650 to these servers with smart. check the speed to male server and post. i think it should come near 3.6mb.

  • @mah

    no one is getting 3.6mbps on Mobitel, the speeds are around 1.5mbps

    once more 3.6/7.2/14.7mbps are the speed of the tower not what each user will get, this tower (cell) speed get shard with all the users who are connected to a tower.

  • mah

    @ kalinga
    what you say is true. but i experienced 3.6mb connection and it is far better than my smart 1mb connection. exept for last few days i had promised speed. what i cant understand is how performance improve dramatically from 1mb to 3.6 mb if difference is less than 0.5mb? either my smart should have lower speed or 3.6 one should have atleast 2mb.

  • @mah

    I’m a Mobitel 3.6mbps user, i can say there are no so call “miracle” speeds there, but you do get around 1.5mbps and yes, its better then Dialog HSDPA.

    but cant say much about this still this SE-ME-WE-4 issues is resolved.

  • Amila

    dear Kalinga,
    I ve E220 modem, originelly dialog
    but unlocked
    hoe should i swich to mobitel 3.5G,shud i ve to buy mobtel HSDPA sim? or cant i do with my normal mobitel sim?
    Mobitel profile1k danna hoyagann puluwannam loku udawwak

  • @Amila

    yes you can use a normal mobitel sim, but only there pre-paid packages, with Daily Delight, you can go upto 1mbps, or else you have to buy a package, 7GB (3.6mbps) will cost around Rs.2490 ++ TAX monthly, and to get a SIM it will cost around Rs.2500 refundable deposit and Rs500 connection fee

    _http://mobitel.lk/broadband/tariff.html

  • Rishoban

    With the same Taxes (VAT+MSL) A mobitel 2490 package cost around 3100/= monthly, it has difference around 700/= from an unlimted dialog. Dialog advertised 7.2Mbps becuase mobitel did, Now I think dialog will bring a tarrif change after seeing this new mobitel tariff.

  • @Rishoban

    Dialog advertised 7.2Mbps becuase mobitel did

    Mobitel is not advertising there packages as 7.2mbps, they are adverting there network as 7.2mbps, Dialog DONT have a fully 7.2mbps Network, most of there towers are 1.8mbps

    Dialog is the one who’s advertising there package at 7.2mbps not even 1mbps is there.

    this is false and misleading information from Dialog.

    Now I think dialog will bring a tarrif change after seeing this new mobitel tariff.

    whats the point even if Dialog give it for free, when its not working half of the time and its slower then Dialup.

  • Rishoban

    @Kalinga
    Yes, I agree with you. with a speed like that No one will buy a dialog connection. But, If dialog gives it for free, I think many customers will buy it. Ha…..Ha….Ha.

  • Rukshan

    showing number of customers is very famous one for dialog.
    i’m sure they they will tell now we have 6 Million customers. We all know free KIT sim distribution at bus Halt, market etc.

  • Rishoban

    I can surely say, there will severe drop in the no of customers sooner. What about other services of dialog, such as CDMA, TV,etc. Are they giving any profits to dialog? I think Dialog CDMA is not popular among the poeple?

  • Rishoban

    I have another doubt, in mobitel’s website, they have mentioned prices for broadband and did not mention any about Taxes and levies. That means Rs.2490/= is inclusive of taxes? Or else they have metion “Subject to Governement Taxes and levies”?

  • even tho I’m not a Dialog BB customer anymore, i have been following this matter and today i got a reply, so lets hope Dialog will fix the matter in time.

    =====================
    Dear Kalinga,

    Thank you very much for your continued patience with this matter..

    Yes , I agree with u that if the faulty is in Dialog IP core , it has nothing to do with the cable cut..That fact is noted and we ll deeply investigate into it ..

    But,due to se-me-we 4 cable failure , as I have said in my mail, there can be degradation of service due to link congestion..This is what I heard from our ISP team..

    “Many ISPs including Dialog have lost the connectivity to Europe and US. We had some high capacity direct links to Europe and they are down now due to this cable cut,Hence, Our internet Backbone uplink capacity is less than the normal operation with the available links.we observe congestion time to time in the remaining links. This might also cause the degradation in internet quality.”

    Thank you

    Let’s have good hopes on fulfillment of our wishes upon High Speed Internet.

    Blessings for All Service Providers…

    Wish you all a Happy & Prosperous New Year….

  • Rukshan

    @all
    One of user in Elakiri.com says Dialog has this international bandwidth.

    STM 1 (155Mbps) Links to
    France Telekom
    Cable and Wireless
    Verizon Europe
    Sprintlink – UK
    Verizon – Singapore
    Datahop – UK

    Satellite – Newskies and Intelsat

    Some links might be down due to the cable cut.
    Definitely not 155Mbps, it might be closer to 1Gbps.

  • @Rukshan

    155mbps, yes, but this is NOT allocated for HSDPA or WiMAX, only around 40mbps is allocated for Broadband internet.

    Dialog do NOT have Gigabit connectivity.

    also the issue with SE-ME-WE-3/4 has been resolved bye France Telcom. so this has nothing to do with the cable issue.

  • @Rishoban

    in reality this cant be done, as HSDPA only support 7.2mbps or 14.7mbps per cell (Tower), NOT per-user, but The maximum bandwidth that can be achieved with HSDPA depends greatly on cell (tower coverage area) size. To limit the power needed to send each bit of information, the maximum achievable bit rate tends to fall away for users at the edge of the cell. For a large cell with a diverse range of users, the peak aggregate data rate will be in the range of 1 to 1.5 Mbps. This can increase to 4 to 6 Mbps and beyond as the cell size decreases to the micro cell level and beyond. In principle, a picocell could see data rates of 8mbps or more.

    in lame man terms, need to make the cell size smaller and use adaptive coding scheme based on turbo codes for packet switching. 😀

  • Raskie

    Last post is very interesting, may be that can be the reason Mobitel dropped the 7.2MbZoom package from the new tariff structure, i myself changed to new Zoom890 yesterday, its good they charge 50 cents for a MB, my 2Gb seems to disappear when streaming videos, (well what can i expect??, right)
