Dialog WiMax Speed Test 4mbps 😀
Whenever you do speed tests, avoid speed test sites using FLASH . Specially designed by ookla and based on flash. Actually these sites (due to application characteristic in FLASH) are indicating speeds 50% to 60% higher than what user is having.
This is what you could do to verify your results.
Say if you have 1500kbps in speed test net, ( SLT 2Mbps)
Select couple of software in three different locations (3 different servers will be alright) and start your download. The file size should be above 1MB. Now check the transfer speed. Once completed, take the average. Now compare this with your previous results what speed test site indicated.
Then select a streaming video above 700kbps and start watching. (wwitve.com is good) Better to select three different streaming videos in three different servers. We are doing this to maintain the accuracy of our test. Now can you watch video at 1000kbps speed? Certainly no is the answer. But what speed test.net is saying about your speed? It’s just a piece of fancy utility and nothing more.
Try to use speed test sites with http and ftp facilities in the future.
And there is big difference in technology used by Dialog and SLT. The difference is not only limited to the technology (wired and wireless) and the other elements are also affecting the results. This is the reason why we are getting two different results (Higher value for SLT and lower value for Dialog) at speed test.net especially during the peak period. But this doesn’t mean Dialog is providing proper speeds.Just try to understand my point
@ kalinga
you just need mobitel smart sim… subscribe for daily delight , you ll get exact promised speed.
@Sanath Siriwardena
i can clearly say on my SLT ADSL (I have 4 2mbps) i can say they peak 2mbps every time on off peak and 1.2mbps ++ on peak times, check the SNMP router status
http://kalingasblog.com/slt/ADSL%20Speed.JPG
cant say the same for Dialog, cant hit more then 112KB/s on my HSDPA. even from Dialog it self!.
even on Dialog 4mbps WiMax i cant hit more then 1.2mbps, even on off peak.
@kalinga
I saw in an mobitel ad. that their downlink hsdpa speed for smart connection is 14.4mbps..1KB = 1cent…
@sam
no. its maximum 1024kbps
@mah
No no..07-12-2008 divaina newspaper page05
07-12-2008 silumina page37..in their advertisement they have said that their maximum down link speed is 14.4mbps..either they have learned how to advertise from their rivals (“dialog”) or they have actually upgraded their network..they have not specifically mentioned about “smart” -;sorry for that;- but in the ad. some thing like “high speed Internet for any mobitel phone…”
is mentioned.
@mah
sorry wrong again…its for smart connections
@ sam
smart normal sims and post paid sims they give 1024 uplink and downlink speeds. i m getting exact downlink speed with smart. uplink i get around 350 as my hsdpa phone supports only 384 uplink. to get higher speeds we have to get a data sim(USIM). their advertisement says that we can use our phone as a modem and they only specified speed range of different phones. (HSDPA, HSPA). some phones support 7.2mb, dont know whether there are phones supporting 14.4 available here.
anyway 1 cent per kb is too costly to browse internet. but smart delight is very good. 50 rupees per 100mb. plus you get 100 OG video calls and 100sms M to M on the day of subscription
Hi kalinga could you please include whats the different between EDGE and Gprs.How can i find whether i am connected to EDGE or GPRS networks .I am using Mobitel sim.If possible please email them to me.Thanks!
@Nirmal
GPRS is normally you can get around 24kbps – 80kbps (Avg of 32kbps) but depend on the service providers network capability, EDGE (EGPRS) from 64kbps to 236.8kbps but Avg of 64kbps this also depend on the service providers network.
normally on the phone if your on GPRS it shows as “G” and EDGE it shows as “E” but the phone need to support EDGE, also some windows mobiles even tho it support EDGE it only shows “G” this can be fixed by a simple registry hack on the windows mobile, but this is just a display icon, the phone will use EDGE if its available and if the phone support EDGE even tho it show “G”

I use my Nokia 5320 for browsing internet.. The speed is very good..
I recommend to use Mobitel..
M3 is the best…
@Rajapaksha
M3 is good when it comes to speeds, (when i was using it, not sure about now) but the price ? not that good 😀
@ kalinga
no. smart daily delight is cheap.
50 rupees for 100 mb
so 1500 rupees for 3GB. then 5GB is 2500 rup with good speed.
aditionally you get 3000 mins video calls OG and 3000 sms free if you subscribe for 30 times. also you dont have to pay if you dont connect
@mah
5GB for Rs.2500 ? where does that says ?
@mah
with smart daily delight you have to activate it every day, can you say how much data you will use during the day in the morning ? well no, then i have to activate it again if I’m using more, so i have to keep on calculating how much I have used. if not I’m gonna get charged the normal GPRS charges, what if i pay for 100MB but only used 50MB, then it get expired at 12am.
i think its inconvenient and not that cheap when you think about it.

yes. you are correct.
but we can activate 25 rupee bundle if we plan to use less amount.
also we can activate it using another mobitel sim. so no need to keep excess balance in the sim used for data. so you wont be charged after bundle ends.
its inconvenient, i know. but for me its better than waiting for minutes to open a page! like dialog HSDPA!
dropped a mail to dialog about the packet lost and slow speed, seem like a bad router is the issue, or the router cant handle the traffic, issue start around 8pm or so are continues till 1am or so,

temporarily disconnected my m3 connection and switched to the daily delight system. gonna use it this month and see how the pricing goes. heard from mobitel that they’ll be introducing low prices for the current m3 packages, so will have to wait and see.
http://www.speedtest.net/result/374337529.png
@Kalinga(#268)
1) You don’t have to activate smart daily delight every day.You can just activate mutiples at one time as you need.
2) There is a seperate USSD code *091# to check the your own Data usage.
3) SMS will trigger when you reach 90% of ur Data quota.
@saranga
so what your saying saranga, i can pay Rs.2500 ++ once and can use 5GB for 30 days ?
after 4 days and no reply form Dialog about there issue, not even on there so call BLOG (http://www.dialogblogs.com/2008/11/hspa-issues-open-thread/) that is there for HSPA issues, all i can say now is Dialog is cheat and its a piece of crap ! now Dialog is showing the signs of a falling company !
@kalinga,
you can activte 50 day multiple bundle (50 time)and use 5G(100*50M) for maximum 50 days.charge will be (50+tax)*50.
showing packet lost issue @ Dialog HSPA
@saranga
i dont think its possible. each 100mb bundle should be used with in 24 hours. if activate multiple times , stii you have to use the bundle with in 24 hours.
you can activate for the next day also. but i dont know whether we can activate for 30 days. anyway activation is easy and do with another sim, so dont have to take sim out from the modem and not necessory to keep excess balance in the data sim. ( warning sms can be missed. if so after that normal data rate will apply. so better not to keep cxcess credit)
after few complains and sending few reports to Dialog about the HSDPA issue, they seem to removed the web cashe engine (or proxy) that was @ 125.214.164.4, this was the IP that was shard by any one who use HTTP/HTTPS (WEB) access and the IP 202.69.200.5 is the other NAT gateway used for any other traffic, today dialog is not redirecting its web traffic via IP 125.214.164.4,a and using the main NAT gateway (202.69.200.5), so every seem to be getting the IP 202.69.200.5, i have bean doing a ping test from around, 6pm today, till now (8:03pm), will keep on doing to see if the packet lost issue is still there.
also i have noticed the packet latency (delay) has come down as well with in Dialog network.
UPDATE: as soon as i was done with this comment, they have changed it back to 125.214.164.4 and packet lost is back. (8:08pm)
UPDATE2: they seem to be going back and forth with this, seem to be testing 😀 (8:15pm)
Good news for M3 users.
http://www.mobitel.lk/broadband/tariff.html
@ kalinga
M3 tarrif reduced! but no 7.2mb connection. do you know why?
@mah
keep in mind HSDPA speeds are not what each user will get, its whats the tower is capable of, so when any provider says you will get 7.2mbps or 3.6mbps, this is not the speed you get, its just what one tower is capable of, so if there are 10 users connected to one tower that 3.6mbps or 7.2mbps get divided with each user.
even with M3, you will get around 1mbps or so, so don’t accept it to be 3.6mbps
@ kalinga
but with my smart connection i always get mote than 1mbps which is the advertised speed. speed tests show more than 1000 and downloads show around 110-130KBPS always. also i experienced mobitel 3.6mb one at their head office. and its much more faster than smart.
@mah
thats good, anyway will update you guys after a month or so about M3 3.6mbps once more users start to use M3
@ kalinga
one of my friends had dialog connection. it was very poor ane he got all the money refunded. he used to watch fox news and with dialog so called 7.2 mb connection he couldnt do that. it was buffering word to word. with m3 1mb also there is some buffering happens occationally but very much better than dialog. and with our workplace adsl 2mb connection also it buffers and not much difference observed compared to m3 1mbps. but m3 3.6mb it goes very smoothly and buffereig line goes more than 1 inch ahead of streaming line.( experienced at big m)
M3 Doesn’t promise what they can’t deliver, that’s why they haven’t given a so called 7.2Mbps package or any sort of misleading unlimited package. But they have clearly made HSPA more affordable with this price cut. Just see that Rs.2490 package with 7GB free data bundle. Excess usage charge is just 50cents per MB. With that package you can go upto 14GB for Rs.6000 to benchmark it against Dialog’s so called unlimited package. With the superior quality of M3 over Dialog HSPA, i believe this Rs.2490 is the best broadband package in the market.
Cheers, Enjoy M3…!!!
@Udayanga
can you post some speed test results ?
cant say its good just because its cheap, anyway had issue with M3 in the past same as dialog, but they did fix the issue, so can say M3 is some what better then Dialog.
its great if you can post some speed test results so we can compare it with dialog, anyway with in 3-4 days will post some test results.
but what i really want to see is, how M3 will be after 2-3 months once users start to use torrents etc and when there is real traffic on the network.
@Kalinga,
Agree with you, Currently M3 gives some what better than Dialog with my experience. I said Zoom2490 is the best, as its cheap and M3’s current quality. Better if we have a look at after one or two months from now before arrive at conclusions. Anyway i hope these packages will be get popularized in the market as they give value for money under the current market conditions.
Cheers…!
my mobitel smart 1mb speed test. upload maximum of the device is 384kb..
http://www.speedtest.net/result/377054808.png
Switched to the new zoom2490 package. Tests from American side are slow, probably due to the cable problem.
Here’s one from Male, got this at 6:15PM

@ malintha
this is not at all good no? i m getting more than 1000kb with smart delight.
@ malintha
and i know from my experience that 3.6mb connection is very much faster than 1mb connection. i feel you should complaint.
Macho M3 Seems good than Dialog HSPA.But have to look around 2,3 months. Yes some times their quality will reduce due to more users.Hope they’ll stay the same.im using upahara. but they dont giv daily delight for post paid users.(coz imon SLT ADSL home express)
SLT ADSL is fine. but they should upgrade their 512 kb/s line to 1mb/s.
@ malintha
this is not at all good no? i m getting more than 1000kb with smart delight.
and i know from my experience that 3.6mb connection is very much faster than 1mb connection. i feel you should complaint.
I just checked the mobitel’s website. Wonderful price plans. I will definitely change my package after my 6 month contract period ends. No duobt in that! Anyway, after 6 months my e220 modem belongs to me? isn’t it? So, I can unlock it and use with mobitel SIM? Can I?
@mah yeah i think i should complain. can it be a problem with that broken cable?
@mah
like i told in my comment 284, you will NOT get 3.6mbps, as the speed they say is the max the system will go up to, but you have to share the speeds with other users as towers are NOT capable of diliverying the speed they say on HSDPA as the max speed on HSDPA is 14mbps per tower (On Mobitel, and im not 100% sure if all of there HSPA towers are capable of 14.2mbps) and this get divided with other users.
i can clearly say Dialog sucks and all i can say now at this point is NOT to buy it !
not only the speed, even the billing, CS sucks, they always try to put the blame on you rather then see if there is an issue, CS people never listen to the customer, from 3 days after i got the connection i found that they charged me around 18000++ for the 2990 unlimited connection, as they f**up there billing and have bean asking them to fix it, still no luck, now i can’t even disconnect the dam thing. it has bean more then 3 months now!!!
they have no proper system to handle complains, now one department is sending letters saying XX amount is due bla bla, and asking to call one number, when you call that number and explain them what has happened, the the other stupid department send another latter saying there was no response to the 1st letter.
now [email protected] is not working at all, now i know why dialog share prices are down, why they DialogTV is not making any profits.
Dialog don’t care about the customer, they only care about making $$$$ ! that’s it!
Indi and other are trying to help but they cant do much as most CS don’t know even what they are doing.
its a sad Future for Dialog!
