Installing Sinhala (සිංහල) on a iPhone 3G & Jailbrake
බලමු කොහොමද කියලා iPhone 3G (OS 3.1.2) එකකට සිංහල යුනිකෝඩ් දාන්නේ කියලා. මේ ඔක්කොම කරන්න කලින් iPhone එක Jailbreak ලක යුතුයි. මේ ආකාරයට සිංහල iPod Touch එකකට උවද දැමිය හැකියි. දැනට ගොඩක් ලංකාවේ තියන iPhone ඉතින් කොහොමත් Jailbreak කරපුව නිසා Jailbreak කරන කොටස අතහරින්න පුලුවන්. මගේ එක Dialog එකෙන් ගත්ත නිසා ඒක Jailbreak කරපු එකක් නොවෙයි, Retail Unlock එකක්. ඉස්සර වගේ නොවෙයි දැන් Jailbreak කරන එක හරිම ලේසියි. මේ සදහා blackra1n කියන tool එක තමයි යොදාගන්නේ.
සිංහල ෆොන්ට් එක හදන්න නම් මලින්ත හා නිකලස් තමයි මහන්සි උනේ. මුලින් අපි හැදුවේ දසුන් එක්ක ඔහුගේ MAC font එකේ සිංහල rules දාලා, නමුත් ඒක හරි ගියේ නැ, පසුව තමයි මම දැක්කේ දසුන්ගේ font එක MAC OS වල දැම්මහමත් අල කියා, නිකලස්ගේ font එක දැම්මහම වැඩ, (100% නොවෙයි) පස්සේ මලින්තට කිවුහම iPhone arialuni.ttf font එකට අපි නිකලස්ගේ ෆොන්ට් එකේ සිංහල ඇතුලත් කරලා බැලුවා ඒත් අල, පස්සේ මලින්ත නිකලස්ව සම්බන්ද කරගත්තම තමයි font rules දාන්න වෙනම විදියක් තියනවා කියලා දැනගත්තේ. (Font එක ලබාගැනීමට මට ඊමේල් එකක් එවන්න)
බලමු දැන් ඉස්සෙලා iPhone එක Jailbreak කරන විදිය, blackra1n tool එක download කරගන්න.
[UPDATE: දැනට Jailbreak කර ඇත්නම් මෙතනට යන්න]
iPhone/iPod Touch එක computer එකට සවිකරලා (USB) iTunes open උනොත් ඒක close කරලා, blackr1n tool එක දාවනය කරන්න.
මේ සියල්ලට කලින් Phone එක iTunes සම්බන්ද කර Sync කරන්න, මෙවිට ෆොන් එක backup වෙයි. දැන් make it ra1n බොත්තම ඔබන්න, එවිට iPhone එක reboot වී recovery mode එකේ jailbreak කිරීම සිදුකරයි.
Jailbreak ඌ පසු ෆොන් එක reboot වෙයි, යම්කිසි විදියකින් මෙය සිදු උනේ නැතිනම්, Power + Home button එක අල්ලාගෙන තප්පර 20සක් සිටින්න, එවිට මෙය නැවත යතාත්තවය පත්වෙයි.
iPhone එක reboot වීමෙන් පසුව blackra1n icon එක පෙන්වයි, මෙය Open කරන්න, මීට කලින් wifi වගේ තියනවානම් සම්බන්ද වෙන්න, 3G/HSDPA නම්, 5MB වගේ download එකක් වෙන නිසා පොඩක් යන මුදල් ගැන සැලකිලිමත් වෙන්න.
Cydia තෝරා, එය install කරගන්න

Cydia install උන පසු එහි icon එක දිස්වෙයි. දැන් එය Start කරන්න. පලමු වරට open කල විට, එය update check කරයි, නැවත ස්වයන්ක්රියව වැසීයයි, නැවත Open කල විට “Who Are You?” ලෙස පනිවිඩයක් දිස්වෙයි, මෙයි “User” කියන එක තෝරාගන්න. ඉන්පසුව, Cydia update ඇද්දැයි බලා update දමන ලෙස කියයි.
Upgrade ඇතයි කියා දැනුම් දුන්නොත් “Complete Upgrade” ලෙස ලබාදෙන්න. මෙය සදහා මිනිත්තු කීපයක් ගොස්, නැවත Cydia close වී open කල යුතුයි.
මේ සියල්ල සිදුවූ පසු, Cydia නැවත open කර, Search වෙත ගොස්, OpenSSH ලෙස සොයන්න.
සොයාගත් පසු, එය install කරගන්න, මේ හරහා තමයි අපි SSH හා SFTP කිරීමට යොදාගන්නේ. මෙය Linux වල SSH server එකම තමයි.
Install උන පසුව, Cyndia වෙත ගොස් එය වසා, iPhone එක reboot කරන්න. (Power Off and On)
දැන් අපි කරන්නේ ඕනේ default SSH/root password එක වෙන “alpine” කියන එක වෙනස් කිරීමයි, මෙය කල යුතුම දෙයකි.
මේ සදහා putty ssh client එක download කරන්න. මෙය සිදුකිරීමට පරිගනකයක් හා iPhone එක wifi network එකට සම්බන්ද කරගන්න ඕනේ, පරිගනකයේ wifi card එකක් ඇත්නම් Ad-hoc network එකක් සාදාගන්න. දැන් බලන්න ඕනේ, wifi වලින් iPhone එකට ලැබුන IP එක මොකද කියලා, Setting වෙලට ගොස් මෙය පහත පරිදි සොයාගන.
හරි දැන් අපි SSH හරහා iPhone එකට සම්බන්ද වෙමු, පලමුව මතක තියාගන iPhone එක On එකේ තබාගන්න sleep mode එකට යන්න නොදී. putty open කර, IP එක putty එකට ලබාදී SSH ලෙස තෝරා Open කරන්න.
SSH සම්බන්ද ඌ විට, user name එකට root ද, password එකට alpine ද ලබාදෙන්න, පසුව passwd ලෙස සටහන් කර, අලුත් password එකක් ලබාදෙන්න.
සිංහල දැමීම
[Update: WiFI නැතුව සිංහල දැමීමට මෙතනට යන්න]
හරි, දැන් බලමු සිංහල දාන්නේ කොහොමද කියලා, මේ සහදා FileZilla FTP client එක download කරගන්න. ඉන්පසු එක install කරගන්න, පසුව එය Open කොට, File -> Site Manager වෙත යන්න.
Host එකට iPhone එකේ IP එකද, Server type එක SFTP ද, Logon Type එක Normal ද, User root ද, Password එක ඉහත ලබාදුන් password එක ලබාදී connect කරන්න.
සම්බන්ද උන පසු, වම්පස ඔබේ පරිගනකයද, දකුනු පස iPhone එකද දිස්වෙයි. iPhone එකේ System>Library>Fonts>Cache වෙත, සිංහල ෆොන්ට් එක (arialuni.ttf) upload කරන්න. එවිට replace කරන්න ද කියා අසයි, OK ලෙස ලබාදෙන්න. (Original font එක මතක ඇතුව backup කරන්න.) font එක දැමීමෙන් පසුව Phone එක reboot කරන්න.

ඒක නෙමේ මේ නිකලස් කියන එක්කෙනා මොනවා කරන කෙනෙක්ද? එයා සිංහල ෆොන්ට් සංවර්ධනයට සම්බන්ධ උනේ කොහොමද?

yes, its helpful to other, but not the iPhone users, since iPhone don’t support any other browser then Safari
i have also seen that on Opera-mini, Sinhala rendering is not that good. but its better then nothing

Machan, can u explain how to install unicode for nokia brand (I have E71), If we use opera mini, it is not supporting for all sinhala unicode base websites.Redndering is not much good also. It is using the picture format (how can we pay bill
So, please help us to install unicode fonts for Nokia mobile.

he he ya ya. but i restored the software and jailbreaked it again using ur guidance (which was very helpful). but i nearly had a heart attack when the there was no signal after jail breaking again. also if u r jailbreaking in sri lanka hv to unlock ne to use it here. hwever gps doesnt work nw for some reason. but sinhala works fine. thanks.

if you have a unlocked iphone that mean its already jailbroken, what i got is an iphone from Dialog, where i don’t really need to unlock it. just need to jailbreak it to install sinhala
if your GPS is not working that mean the img you have use it bad.

hey it seems blackra1n has several bugs which causes wifi and gps problems in some devices. and my device is unfortunate enough to fall in to the “some” category. however there is a fix at http://www.pushfix.info/,http://cydia.pushfix.info/. i applied it and nw gps works fine.

සිංහල දැමීමට දැන් පහසුයි, WiFI උවමනා නැත.
http://www.iphone-explorer.com/ වෙත ගොස් iPhone Explorer Download කර Install කරගන.
දැන් Jailbreak කරපු iPhone/iPod Touch එක පරිගනකයට USB හරහා සවිකොට iPhone Explorer Open කරන. එහි File වෙත ගොස් “Select Root Directory” තෝරන්න, ලැබෙන window කෙනෙක් “Real iPhone root Directory (Advanced users)” තෝරා, OK කරන්න.
දැන් System>Library>Fonts>Cache වෙත යන්න.
පරිගනකයෙන් ඇති “arialuni.ttf” එක drag and drop කරන්න Cache folder එකට. දැන් iPhone Explorer එක වසා, iPhone/iPod එක restart කරන.
දැන් නිවැරදිව සිංහල වැඩ කරනු ඇත.

issue with symbian is, even if we make a font the OS do not support scripting support for sinhala language. since sinhala need advanced scripting support.

How about using font router for Symbian. I saw in a forum that people in India is using it to view Hindi on Symbian. I have used font router on a 6120c, but haven’t tried sinhala yet.

By the way, be cautious with the font router. Install it only on the memory card. Configuration file for the fontrouter is located at E:\data\Fonts\FontRouter.ini (on memory card). You can disable fontrouter by setting “Enable=0″. I think that I don’t need to spam here, since you guys can use Google!.

Tried sinhala with fontrouter.Used the font iskpota.ttf found on windows 7. But there are rendering problems.
. (I do not own a symbian at the moment. Tried it with my friend. )

TTF will not working as we need to system to support Unicode, TTF will work with out any scripting support.

Hi, Nice post. Can we upgrade iPhone OS with iTunes after jail breaking the iPhone. I am still thinking whether to jail break or not. I have unlocked iPhone 3G. I have almost everything but sinhala unicode

if you have a unlocked iPhone, that mean its already jailbroken. that mean you can install Sinhala fonts with out an issue.
any phone can be upgraded using iTunes, but the issues is if you have an iPhone that is jailbroken/unlocked, you will loose all that and other 3rd party application witch you have installed. also OS 3.1.3 is cant be unlocked at this time.

Actually I bought the iPhone from Dialog. And I have upgraded to iPhone OS 3.1.3 now. Then I just copied .ipa files with iTunes. That way I have upgraded my iPhone OS. Does it mean my iPhone is jail-broken ?
When I try to use ssh command from my MacBook I get following error. My iPhone IP is 192.168.1.4 as shown in Wi-Fi settings.

Dialog sell a retail version of the iPhone, witch mean its not locked to any network. so its not really jailbroken or unlocked. so if you need to install Sinhala in to it, 1st you need to Jailbrake it.
3.1.3 is cant be jailbroken with blackra1n.
